Mary holds degrees in 3D and industrial design, with emphasis in the ‘designer crafts’ of small metals ceramics and textile design.
She began working in graphic design in the pre-digital, pre-internet era when her decision to move to Boulder, CO (not then an industrial hub!) put a roadblock in her industrial design career. But it was a fairly seamless move to apply the universal rules of good design, as well as training in the fine arts, to a wide range of graphic projects with the attitude that no job was too hard or too strange to take on. She learned a lot along the way, and is still learning as we embrace all things digital.
For years the urge to create 3D work was met by doing 3D paper illustrations for magazines and catalogs and many of these still grace the homes and offices of clients.
Mary is the Art Director and owner of Sweet Design, and the person most likely to work directly with our clients. Mary loves making clients happy. She’s pretty good at it.
Tad began working in the graphic design field in the late 1970’s doing paste-up and layout for printing companies. In the 1980’s she became a typesetter and worked with top graphic designers in Providence, RI, for clients such as Brown University and the RISD Museum.
She attended Brown University majoring in cognitive science in the 1980s. After graduation, she worked for Silicon Valley companies Oracle and Adobe. Moving to Boulder, CO, in 1991, she worked for Quark in Denver for 3 years as a technical support specialist and beta testing coordinator. Tad then worked for multimedia developer Media Lab in Louisville, as an Authorware developer and training coordinator. During the dot-com boom of the late 1990s, she worked for Global Commerce Systems for 3 years as manager of web design within the Creative Services group.
Tad is known as “The Font Goddess” and loves old-school typographic excellence. Her superpower is identifying fonts from memory.
She now applies her design acumen to WordPress web development. Tad enjoys combining new technology with old-school design excellence and loves to customize WordPress themes with just the right font, at just the right size, with just the right spacing, so that your website sings with visual coherence. She has been working with Sweet Design since 2001.
